Hide everything that distracts you. One keystroke.

Focus Mode moves your current tab into a clean popup window — no tab strip, no address bar, no bookmarks bar, no feed. Press again and everything comes back exactly as it was: same tabs, same order, same active tab.

No account. No sign-in. No server. No analytics. Your data never leaves your browser.

Just your work.

No tabs to click through. No bookmarks to wander into. No feed pulling you sideways. When you’re done, one more keystroke puts it all back.

✔ Tabs restored in order   ✔ Search & messages still work   ✔ Works on every site

Everything you need to stay on task

🌿 Focus window

The core feature. A popup window with no tab strip, address bar or bookmarks — without fullscreen, so notifications, search and messages keep working.

📵 Site controls

Hide YouTube home feeds, Shorts, sidebars and comments; X timelines and trends; LinkedIn feeds; Reddit feeds — each toggle separate, all off by default.

🍅 Pomodoro timer

Set an intention, pick work and break lengths, and let it cycle automatically — even with the popup closed.

🎧 Ambient sounds

Rain, cafe, fire, forest, waves, white noise and brown noise, mixed at your own volumes from bundled offline loops.

🚫 Site blocker

Your own blocklist with a calm interstitial page, a reason, and a 5-minute allow button when you really need it.

📈 Focus stats

Daily sessions and minutes, streaks, levels, badges and a year-long heatmap — all computed locally from your own history.

Also in the popup: a daily goal ring, quick-capture notes, favorites, and a distraction log with timestamps. Popup sections can be dragged to reorder or hidden.

How it works

  1. Install from the folder — see the install steps below. There is no Chrome Web Store listing yet, and no account to create.
  2. Press Alt+Shift+X (Cmd+Shift+X on Mac) on any normal web page. Your tab moves into a clean popup window.
  3. Work. Search, messages and your profile still work — only the chrome and the feeds you chose to hide are gone.
  4. Press Alt+Shift+X again. Your tab returns to its original window, in its original place, with the original tab order restored.

Install Focus Mode (free)

  1. Get the extension: it is currently distributed as a load-unpacked folder — the Chrome Web Store listing will be linked here when published. If you already have the focus-mode.zip from the developer, unzip it.
  2. In Chrome, open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode (top right).
  3. Click Load unpacked and select the focus-mode folder (the one containing manifest.json).
  4. Pin it to the toolbar, then press Alt+Shift+X on any web page to try it.

Stuck? The support page covers the common issues, including why Focus Mode can’t move a chrome:// page and what happens if you close the focus window by hand.

Quick questions

Does Focus Mode track me or send my data anywhere?

No. No account, no server, no analytics. Settings, stats and the restore snapshot live in Chrome storage on your own computer.

Will I lose my tabs?

No. The second keystroke restores the original window, tab order and active tab. If you close the focus window by hand, that tab closes with it — that’s Chrome closing a window, not Focus Mode losing tabs.

Does it block search or messages?

Never. Site controls are feed-only, and search, DMs and profile pages are explicitly protected even when a feed option is on.

Why is Pro pay-what-you-want?

Because the core extension is free and useful on its own. Pro is a thank-you tier: any amount counts, and unlocking is on the honour system because PayPal doesn’t report who paid.
